New Shawnessy Station Apartments are Stylish & Modern
Monday, October 30, 2023
After four decades of home ownership, 70-year-old David Ross never imagined he’d be renting his next home. But it’s proving to be one of the smartest things he’s done.
The retired appliance sales associate, who began his career at the old Woodward’s in Chinook Centre, is leasing a one-bedroom plus den apartment in Shawnessy Station Apartments, a new 169-unit mixed-use building by Trico Communities in southwest Calgary. Initially, he had hoped to downsize by selling his two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo in Bonavista Estates and purchasing a one-bedroom unit in the same complex, but it was proving difficult.
When he investigated Shawnessy Station, a project he’d watched being built, he’d hoped the building would have a small unit he could purchase.
“When I saw the sign on the fence that said ‘rent,’ I thought, oh darn,” he says. “Then in a flash, I thought why not look into renting. Why not free up my money? Suddenly, it made so much sense.”

Kingsland Junction has a site ‘big enough that we could do something very special’
Sunday, May 12, 2019
The massive building site on prime land at Macleod Trail and 77th Avenue S.W. has been dubbed Kingsland Junction, a five-building mixed-use development with retail, commercial and rental residences.
“We were so excited when the opportunity arose. The site was big enough that we could do something very special, ”says Wanda Palmer, vice-president of marketing for Trico.
By offering a variety of housing options for rent, rather than for sale, Palmer says Kingsland Junction will bring people of all ages together in an inclusive, healthy community that will nurture a higher quality of life. She refers to it as “full-spectrum” housing with something for everyone, including those who want to age in place.
“We’re doing a lot of work to create this. Kingsland Junction is going to encourage total health and wellness, provide opportunities for social interaction and create a very safe and beautiful place for the residents and the greater community to gather,” she says.

Five ways to build community
Saturday, April 06, 2019
To meet the demand, builders are creating communities based on an ideal or a concept that reflects the buyers needs and ways of living. Residences that capture the essence of modern lifestyles with an emphasis on technology, healthy living, shared resources, outdoor spaces, common interests and values. In recognition of this, five projects have been singled out and nominated for Best Multi-Family Community Concept in the 2018 BILD Calgary Region Awards to be held April 13 at the Telus Convention Centre.
The Delaney, by Trico Communities
“The Delaney is a pet-friendly building, offering below market and below market accessible suites,” says Wanda Palmer, Trico’s vice-president of marketing. “Trico chose to develop this because there was a high need for inclusive housing in Mount Pleasant. The community and new community residents welcomed the development as it contributes to enhancing the overall quality of life in their community.”

Trico Homes held a sod-turning celebration for its 44-unit Delaney development earlier this month. The building will be located on 8th Street and 17th Ave. N.W., with 12 apartments earmarked as affordable, which means they’ll be rented for 10 percent less than the average market rate through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.
